WHAT WILL YOU SEE?
Keehi Lagoon, Magic Island & Waikiki Beach
It’s more than a tour: it’s an experience.
- Your Doors Off Oahu helicopter adventure begins with a beautiful view of Keehi Lagoon and continues over historic Honolulu Harbor.
- Aloha Tower, once the tallest structure on the island, is dwarfed by the business center high rises and you’ll note how compact the downtown area is. Above the city is Punchbowl, the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, and beyond, the ridges of the Koolau mountains that describe a spine down the middle of the island.
- You’ll see Ala Moana Beach Park, Magic Island, the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor and Waikiki Beach. This part is fun because you’ll also see the surfers and pleasure craft off Waikiki, as well as occasional marine life such as dolphins and turtles.
Diamond Head, Kahala & Hanauma Bay
- Next up is Diamond Head, Kahala, and spectacular Hanauma Bay.
- Rounding the east end of the island, you’ll see rugged coastline, inviting Sandy Beach and Makapuu Point and lighthouse. Your aerial tour continues over Sea Life Park. Your Doors Off helicopter tour over Oahu, Hawaii, continues above miles of white sand beach in Waimanalo. You’ll be treated to stunning views of Mount Olomana, Kailua, Kaneohe and the gorgeous coral formations of Kaneohe Bay.
- The Bay itself hold several visual treats including Coconut Island, which was used for the opening shot of the TV classic Gilligan’s Island, and the serene waters of the Kaneohe Bay fishpond, initially constructed by the ancient Hawaiians. Look for the Bay’s sandbar, where boaters gather at low tide, and for distinctive Chinaman’s Hat, known as Mokoli’i. According to Hawaiian legend, the uniquely shaped island was the tip of the tail of a lizard.
Kaaawa Valley, Sacred Falls & North Shore & Pearl Harbor
- One of the most dramatic vistas awaits you, storied Jurassic Park (Kaaawa) valley, where scenes from a dozen major motion pictures have been filmed. Perhaps the highlight of the tour is Sacred Falls, a delicate and splendid 1,000-foot cascade.
- The tour continues along the storied North Shore, with a million-dollar view of world-renowned surfing spots including Sunset Beach, Pipeline and Waimea Bay. On your way over Oahu’s Central Plain, you’ll see the Dole Pineapple maze and the “birthing stones” of Hawaiian royalty. Your Oahu helicopter tour concludes with an all-encompassing view of Pearl Harbor, the Arizona Memorial and the Battleship Missouri.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear?
If you choose a doors-on flight, shorts and T-shirts are fine. Wear darker colored tops so reflections in the Pexiglas windows will be minimized. If you choose the doors-off tour, dress warmly. A light jacket or sweatshirt is recommended. And be sure to tie your hair back…it gets windy.
Will I see the volcano?
The volcanoes that comprise the island of Oahu have not erupted in several hundred thousand years. Hawaii ’s active volcano, Kilauea, is located on the Big Island, which is about 250 miles from Oahu. We can take you to the Big Island by helicopter or airplane, if you desire. Please call us for information and pricing on neighbor island tours.
Will I see waterfalls?
If there has been an abundance of rainfall, you’ll see many waterfalls during your tour, especially if you opt for our 45- or 60-minute tours. Naturally, waterfalls tend to be scarce if there has been no rain.
Will I see Pearl Harbor?
Yes. Every one of our tours includes a marvelous pass over Pearl Harbor, where you’ll see the Arizona Memorial and the Battleship Missouri.
Where does the tour take us?
The 50-minute doors off tour takes you over the eastern end of the island, including Honolulu Harbor, Waikiki, Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, Makapuu Point, along Waimanalo Beach, through the Nuuanu Pali and then over Pearl Harbor to the airport. Instead of turning back like our 30 minute tour, this flight continues on over Kaneohe Bay, up through Kaaawa Valley, to Sacred Falls, over Kahuku Point, along the North Shore surfing spots and then over Oahu ’s central plain, passing over Pearl Harbor as you return to the airport.
How many people can fit in the helicopter?
The A-Star carries six passengers plus the pilot. The MD-500s seat four guests. See our Policies page under About Us for weight restrictions.
Can I be guaranteed a front seat?
Yes. The front seats are considered first class and are available for a slight additional charge. The combined weight for both parties seated up front cannot exceed 360 pounds.
Is there a discount for kids?
The FAA requires that every passenger over 24 months occupy his or her own seat. However, children younger than that can ride on a parents’ lap for free.
Can I take pictures?
Yes, we encourage you to take pictures and/or video. For the best photographic results, book a doors off tour.
Do you provide a video?
The A-Stars are equipped with live camera DVD recording systems that record each flight. The video also records your pilot’s narration, your own comments and questions and gentle Hawaiian music in the background. You may purchase a DVD of your actual flight following your tour. There is no video system installed on the MD-500s.
What happens if the weather is bad?
As a rule, we don’t fly if the weather is inclement. After all, we want you to enjoy your tour. We encourage you to book your tour early in your stay so that you have the flexibility to fly another day if the weather is poor.
Am I going to get sick?
Your tour will be a comfortable experience as our pilots limit pitch and bank angles. However, if you are prone to motion sickness, consider taking ginger or Dramamine prior to your flight.
Is it safe to fly in a helicopter?
Absolutely. We have a spotless safety record. We use modern equipment, have incredibly high maintenance standards, employ the most experienced pilots and have a highly dedicated and trained support staff.
Doors Off
If you're flying on the Doors Off tour, please wear a sweater or light jacket as it tends to get cold at altitude. Also, wear shoes. Flip-flops are not acceptable. Sunglasses or other forms of eye protection are recommended and, if you have long hair, tie it back. Cameras must have a wrist strap; we provide pouches and lanyards for your cell phone. GoPro sticks are limited to six inches.

This adventure is experienced with doors off giving you the best opportunity for photographs. In addition, you have the opportunity to fly in the helicopter from Magnum PI- what better way to explore Oahu!
